Satin Bombers Two Ways x Mink Pink

One of the things that I missed so much living in Los Angeles was weather. Rain, thunderstorms, cold, heat. We don’t get much of anything there – which is probably why people say that Los Angeles has the most perfect weather in the nation. It literally is 70 degrees and sunny 95% of the year. And that is all well and good if you’re into that but growing up in Northern California I was raised with frosts and rainstorms and the occasional snow flurry. I missed weather, living in LA. The lack of seasons makes the passage of time so difficult to mark – all of a sudden the calendar jumps from December to June and you can’t seem to figure out where or how the time passed. For the record I also happen to think that 70 degrees is still chilly so I don’t even benefit from the “warm” weather, haha. Anyways – Austin has WEATHER. Since living here we have had thunderstorms full or lightning and thunder, pouring rain, blisteringly hot days and even a frosty morning, all in the course of four months. I’m beyond pleased – I’ve seen more rain these last four months than the last 12 years in Los Angeles. That being said, the one great thing about LA is weather never interferes with shooting for the blog. I’m not used to having to check my weather app to plan for a shoot because in LA ‘surprise!’ it’s 72 and sunny forever. I had a rather rude awakening the other week while getting ready for my shoot when dark storm clouds started rolling in, and the wind started blowing hard – all signs of a front moving through. Storms here move in quickly, often with little warning. Your weather app might catch the storm and let you know, but sometimes even the app seems surprised by the weather.

Storms here move in quickly, often with little warning. Your weather app might catch the storm and let you know, but sometimes even the app seems surprised by the weather. I kept crossing my fingers that it would pass us (I have a radar app on my phone so that I can watch the movement and strength of the storms) and it kept looking like it would just miss us. Sadly, either my app was lying or I was misreading it because as we left the house to start shooting, the first of the drops started to fall. By the time that we had gotten through our first look it was POURING – like dumping buckets, completely impossible to shoot in. My hair was soaked and frizzy, clothes all wet, and I still had a bunch of looks to get through. We drove around looking for suitable places to shoot waiting for the rain to let up, while I checked my app every two minutes and swore up and down that the storm would pass at any moment. Forty-five minutes later, the storm had finally eased up and we scrambled to get in some photos before the light left. This was one of the first times that I missed LA, if just for the ease of shooting. So don’t mind the frizzy hair or slightly bedraggled look on my face – I got rained out.

We have had so much fun working with Mink Pink, and this satin quilted bomber is another one of their fabulous pieces that we were given the opportunity to style. Bombers have been one of the big style trends of fall/winter 2016, but I love how they quilted this one to set it apart from the rest. The fit is great and true to size – I’m wearing a small. I wouldn’t suggest sizing up just because with the quilting it’s a bit thicker and more flattering when fitted. I wanted to do a ‘styled two ways’ post to share with you how versatile this gorgeous bomber is, so I did one dressed-up look and one for the gym. For the going out look I paired it with a satin beige cami, distressed denim, and my favorite simple heels.

For our second look I paired the bomber with these super cool leggings from For Legs Activewear, I love how the satin of the bomber and the shimmery material of the leggings really compliment each other. I kept it simple with some Nikes (on sale for $85!) and a black sports bra from Adore Me (which by the way is SO soft – size up they run a little on the small side, I would have gone with a medium instead of a small). Love the material of the leggings, totally sweat-proof too!
