KIMONO: c/o Pleione Clothing (more of their stuff is at Nordstrom too)  ::  TOP: Forever 21 (in store), similar here  ::  SHORTS: Forever 21  ::  WEDGES: Steve Madden (old old old), super similar style here (and a GREAT price)

A little side note before we talk fashion…a memory more like it. As I was editing and uploading these latest photos for today’s post, I noticed that my thumbs are forever ending up in my belt loops. I’ve seen this particular tendency in past photos – and now that I’ve pointed it out you guys will all probably see it ALL THE TIME (sorry!). But for some reason today it brought up a memory of my dad that I had to share with you guys, because while this may tend towards being a fashion blog more days than not, what it really is MEANT to be is just someplace to share, to connect, to recharge and remember. Those of you who have been following along with me for a little while know that for several years when I was younger I dealt with a great deal of negativity and bullying from the other kids in my class (more about that period of time in this post). My dad used to tell me that when he was younger, the other kids made fun of him for putting his thumbs in his belt loops, that they called him ‘Blue Jean Eugene’ or something to that effect (I wish I could remember what it was exactly that they called him). He told me that anecdote so that I understood that everyone, even the COOLEST people in the world (because my dad was the coolest) go through experiences where they are met with adversity or negativity….and that they all come out on the other side of things all the better for it. Being made fun of for putting your thumbs in your belt loops might sound trivial but at eleven years old I totally identified with what he was saying…and now so many years after he has been gone I am reminded of him as I look at these photos, laughing at my thumbs hooked into my belt loops. Genetic tendency to utilize belt loops for thumb placement….or maybe (and far more likely) a little blessing that he left with me to constantly remember him by. Happy Wednesday, babes.

NOW. On to the fashion! I’ve adored Pleione for ages, and have bought a bunch of their pieces from Nordstrom so when they sent over some of their newest styles I couldn’t have said ‘thank you’ enough! As a full-time working mommy (and writer/blogger by night), I literally never have the time to iron clothes, let alone take the time to piece together succinct looks every day…I shoot all of my looks for the week in one day on the weekend. So on those weekdays, when I’m rushing to get out the door and off to work, I need easy pieces that look great with little effort. I love Pleione because their clothing is SO mommy friendly-it doesn’t wrinkle easily, and doesn’t show the stains and little dirty fingerprints the way that other materials like silk might. It’s easy to clean, easy to style, and still looks gorgeous without ironing and lots of fuss. Their blouses are fabulous for work, and I’ll be sharing some more of my more work-related favs, but I also like that I can wear their pieces on the weekend when I want something more relaxed. This gorgeous floral kimono is so spring-inspired and lightweight, perfect to throw on over a tank or maxi dress! What do you guys think about all of the floral on the blog this week? And don’t worry, I’m back to my normal black tomorrow 😉
