Cold Fighting Juice

With the cold and flu season seemingly endless, I wanted to create an immunity boosting, cold fighting juice blend. This green juice is composed of kale, ginger, turmeric, apple and lemon. It’s simple, tasty, and packed with all sorts of natural cold fighters.

Let’s focus on the two main natural cold remedies in this juice, ginger and turmeric. Ginger is great for everything from digestion issues to arthritis, but it is also a powerful ally when you are battling a cold or flu. Ginger contains chemicals called sesquiterpenes which target upper respiratory viruses, and the anti-inflammatory gingerols and shaogals in ginger not only kill rhoinoviruses (which cause the common cold) but also help in sore throat relief. Ginger is also great for cough suppression, and is a great natural pain reducer. Turmeric is rich in curcumin and volatile oils that have cold-fighting properties, and increases levels of a protein that help the immune system fight off bacteria and viruses. It’s also a great source of both potassium and manganese which support the immune system.  You can use fresh turmeric root of powdered turmeric to glean its’ awesome benefits. So, whether you’re feeling a bit under the weather or just trying to boost that immune system, this juice is the business.


  • 1 bag kale (10 oz)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 apple
  • Fresh ginger root (I like to add a lot, but do this to taste)
  • Tumeric (powder or root form)

How to do it:

  1. Peel and chop ginger
  2. Wash lemon and apple and slice to fit juicer mouth
  3. Juice all ingredients
  4. If using powdered turmeric, sprinkle a healthy sized portion into juice and stir
  5. Drink, enjoy, and be healthy!
