A few weekends ago while the Big C was gone on a business trip the little princess C and I had the opportunity to shoot with Stacie Hess, an absolutely incredible photographer, model, and mother. If you have never seen her work check out her page, she has an eye for light and shadow and space unlike any other, and she captured the babe in ways that I could only have dreamed of.
Little C’ spunky essence, her spirit of exploration and adventure leap out of the images at me. Her wonder and amazement at something as simple as dandelion fluff floating through the air or the glistening coat of a ‘puppy’ met on a field of grass fills me with so much joy and gratitude. This is one of the best parts of being a parent: we get to re-discover the world through our children’s eyes. We get to feel and see everything for the first time all over again; we are gifted peeks into what our own childhoods must have been like, glimpses at what it would have felt like to wonder at the magic of the universe when everything was still fairy dust and princesses and dragons….before the world became what it is to us now. I want to live in her magic land. I want to believe that if I flap my arms hard enough that I can fly, or that the ladybugs can understand me when I speak to them. I want to be able to be a mermaid, a princess, a sword fighter, and a witch all in the course of ten minutes. So, for now, I’ll settle for living through the babe’s eyes, where magic is reality. For now, I’ll just love on our little Valentine, and be grateful for my two C’s who make fairytales feel possible. For now, I will just be. Happy Valentine’s, my loves. Thank you for all of your support and unconditional friendship (and expect lots more from this shoot in the coming weeks). MUAH!
