Think about what makes an outfit interesting. Combining textures, patterns, lengths, colors – doing all of these things creates depth. The eye is naturally drawn to differences, so when you are piecing together a look remember that. And you don’t have to go crazy when creating depth, take something as simple as some black suede over-the-knee boots and a short white dress, and you have depth. Mixing different lengths and fabrics is what makes your look interesting and stylish. This is exactly what I did creating this laid-back look. I mixed fabrics (calf hair flats, jersey knit, silky cotton) and lengths (short dress, long trench, plaid shirt) to create dimension and depth. Try unexpected pairings, like femme pieces and edgier ones. Try things that you think might not work, too, sometimes the best combos come from trying looks outside of your comfort zone. Pair distressed denim shorts with a long elegant trench or a crepe maxi dress with a cropped leather moto jacket. Create juxtaposition. This, in my opinion, is what takes an outfit from just being an ensemble to being a styled and intentional look. What do you guys think? How do you create dimension in your looks?
